Welcome to Steinhaus Bernese!
Steinhaus Bernese is located in Utah at the foot of the Central Wasatch Range in beautiful Sanpete Valley.
All the dogs hail from Switzerland and each have multiple champions in their pedigree. They are registered with the AKC in the United States. We do careful research and work with breeders abroad who are showing their dogs and are dedicated to maintaining the temperament and health in the breed. These are big, gentle, loyal dogs who occupy more than just a place in the family - they are trusted and honored friends.
My involvement with Bernese Mountain Dogs began in 1981 when my parents brought home a male puppy from a breeder in Rye, NY. We named him Bernard von Berg. As a family, we fell in love with him. One year later we added a female from Switzerland named Yaska. These two dogs were tandem to every adventure in my childhood and were the foundation of my parents' breeding program in the 80's. I have had several amazing and wonderful Berners since that time, and have now had Bernese for over 40 years!
Steinhaus is german for stone house. We live in an historic stone house built in the late 1860's by pioneer settlers. It is made of hand-cut oolitic sandstone locally quarried from the hills in the region. Steinhaus is a reference to our place, geographic and cultural history, and the linguistic sounds of our Swiss born dogs.
Steinhaus Bernese places puppies with people who can provide a safe and stimulating environment, and are committed to the long term health and success of the puppy over the entirety of his/her life. We would like your puppy to be an integral part of your family!
I invite you to explore the website and please contact us if you have any questions.
